We are seeking a skilled Automotive Clay Modeler to join our design team. This role involves transforming two-dimensional concepts into full-scale and scale 3D physical models that guide the design development process. If you have a passion for automotive styling and hands-on experience with clay modeling and CNC milling, we’d love to hear from you.


Responsibilities

  • Create accurate three-dimensional full-size and scale models from 2D sketches and verbal design input

  • Work collaboratively with the physical clay modeling team to develop and fabricate concept models

  • Translate exterior and interior design sketches into physical 3D clay models in close coordination with the design team

  • Support milling operations using CNC milling machines and contribute to milling programming tasks

  • Modify clay surfaces to clearly reflect design intent and vehicle proportions

  • Prepare high-quality presentation models for internal reviews, design evaluations, and executive walk-throughs

  • Assist with project coordination, model tracking, and delivery timelines

  • Work both independently and as a part of a collaborative design team

  • Maintain and support studio modeling tools and materials


Qualifications and Skills

  • Minimum of 6 years of experience in a professional automotive design studio

  • Degree in Automotive Design or equivalent hands-on industry experience

  • Strong background in both exterior and interior clay modeling

  • Advanced skills in 3D translation from 2D sketches, with excellent spatial perception

  • Manual expertise in sculpting with various clays and industry tools

  • Proficiency in CNC milling and programming for clay modeling applications

  • Working knowledge of automotive styling and engineering fundamentals

  • Basic understanding of CAD and Alias tools is a plus

  • Comfortable in fast-paced, evolving design environments

  • Proven ability to handle tight deadlines and shifting priorities

  • A proactive, “can-do” attitude with strong problem-solving skills

  • Clear communicator with excellent interpersonal and team collaboration abilities

  • Detail-oriented, creative, and open to exploring new modeling techniques

  • Experience working in startups or OEM design studios is highly valued


Additional Responsibilities

  • Support concept design through surface quality evaluations and clay refinements

  • Prepare models for milling and finishing processes

  • Stay current on modeling tools, industry best practices, and emerging sculpting methods

  • Contribute to the organization and upkeep of the modeling studio
