Work Arrangement​​
This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to the
GM Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.

Design and Technology come together, GM Creative Design's Color,
Material & Finish (CMF) group has an exciting opportunity for a Creative Designer!

As a Creative Designer at GM, you will be part of a larger, connected, global design team working on forward-thinking,
extraordinary elements in production design. Your role will be to see the future of mobility - researching, designing and
creating proposals that demonstrate innovative concepts, from inception to implementation.

Design development will bridge pre-production conceptual material ideation through to strategic branded production execution.
You will generate 2D and 3D proposals and physical samples. Must have outstanding visualization skills and be able to communicate your ideas
to an audience both in person and virtually. You will adeptly refine ideas as you receive feedback. Working within our world class team,
you will collaborate with multiple partners to execute ideas and deliver extraordinary products.

What You’ll Do (Responsibilities):

  • Designs texture, color, material and soft -trim designs into cohesive well resolved, production ready design solutions
  • Uses sound creative judgment to develop - original, innovative, fresh 2D and 3D designs appropriate to program requirements and design leadership by working as part of a team with internal and external partners and suppliers
  • Revises, refines and tracks design proposals. Prepares documentation, presentations and prototypes to program timing and communicating as required
  • Pays particular attention to understanding brand and customer requirements
  • Understands and researches vehicle trends, material and technology innovation.
  • Coordinates and participates in meetings as required
  • · Drives innovation and product material development with automotive supply base.
  • Understands a human centered approach to color & materials design, and what that means for our customer in the present and future

Yours Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in the Automotive Design, Fashion Design, Industrial Design, Product Design, Interior Design, Graphic Design, Architecture or Textile
  • 2+ years of professional experience as Designer in CMF, Industrial or Product Design
  • Highly Proficient 2D Rendering capabilities with Photoshop, Illustrator or similar software
  • Possesses a sympathetic understanding of 3D design surface language and has 3D Rendering capabilities with VRED, Alias, Rhino, Grasshopper or similar rendering software

Portfolio Requirements & Submission Process

  • Must demonstrate out of box creative thinking, problem solving and sound design judgment
  • Must demonstrate conceptual ideation drawings and process to resolution
  • Must demonstrate design inspiration and thoughts and relevance to project outcome
  • Must demonstrate, trend, theme and product inspiration boards with high level graphic layouts
  • Must demonstrate color palettes, material concepts and execution
  • Must demonstrate strong digital rendering skills and prototyping with Photoshop, Illustrator, VRED etc.
  • Must demonstrate sound understanding of 2D proposals to 3D concepts
  • Must understand concepts of user experience design and how CMF design informs the user journey
