This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidates is expected to
report to the Tech Center in Warren, MI on a full-time basis.
The Role:
Are you interested in being part of one of the most exciting design studios in the world? Based in our Warren,
Michigan Design headquarters, where the fusion of Art, Design and Technology come together,
General Motors North America has exciting opportunities for digital sculptors. In this role you will execute digital models
by developing aesthetic surfaces which meet time and quality requirements as directed by Sculpting Leadership.
You will contribute to problem solving by collaborating with design and engineering partners.
You will mentor others in efficient methods for developing models, integrating new technologies, and creating workflows.
What You'll Do:
- Exhibit a safety mindset while identifying, taking ownership and resolving safety concerns.
- Independently develop high quality surfaces for digital or clay models throughout the Global Vehicle Development Process (GVDP).
- Remain accountable for measurable high-quality, timely and cost-effective results, without compromising the integrity, safety and quality of work.
- Support surface releases which meet Design approval, production engineering, and data release requirements.
- Adhere to and assist in developing common GM Global Design processes / best practices
- Maintain knowledge of current trends in design, technology, production methods and materials.
- Mentor others in achieving GVDP modeling standards and technical ability.
- Attend appropriate program related meetings as defined by Sculpting Leadership.
- Perform accurate assessments of surface quality.
- Adhere to corporate data management processes (TeamCenter, SharePoint etc.) and communication systems (timekeeping, email etc.).
- Ask for and anticipate customer needs; make all business decisions to support those needs.
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Please submit portfolio or work samples by following the instructions below
- 5+ years of experience using creative digital sculpting tools (Alias, Nx, etc.) to develop surfaces that meet design and engineering specification.
- Highly skilled with sketch interpretation/ability to translate design input into 3D models.
- High level of interpersonal skills to work effectively with others.
- Strong ability for estimating timing requirements for GVDP model execution.
- Demonstrate the ability to solve own and other teams' problems.
- Knowledgeable of production/manufacturing processes as applicable to surface development (die pull, draft, parting line, gap, flush, formability, and vehicle packaging / integration requirements).
- Proficient in the use of current office software (Excel, Power Point, Word, etc.) with ability to create presentations/communication documentation.
- Seeks opportunities for innovation by executing on latest ideas and implementing continuous improvement initiatives.
- Ability to lead digital model execution on smaller scope programs if assigned by Sculpting Management.
- Demonstrate the courage to make the changes that will improve the organization and help others overcome their resistance to change.
