About the project

Collaboration with BDI Lab and William Wood During the global outbreak of COVID-19, I collaborated with BDI Lab and William Wood on the development of Respo, an advanced reusable respiratory protection system designed for both everyday users and frontline professionals. The project included the design and development of a half-face mask and a full-face protective mask, both based on a valve-less architecture to ensure that inhaled and exhaled air are filtered. This approach improves safety compared with traditional valved masks by preventing unfiltered air from being released into the environment. The masks integrate a high-efficiency pleated N99 filtration system, increasing filtration surface area while maintaining breathability. The full-face version expands protection with an integrated visor that shields the eyes from droplets and airborne particles. The design focused on ergonomics, modularity, and manufacturability, using recyclable materials and replaceable filters to extend product life and reduce waste. Rapid development and prototyping enabled the team to respond quickly to the urgent demand for effective personal protective equipment during the pandemic.
