This role is categorized as on-site. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Shanghai, China five times per week.

 

The Role

 

As a ( Senior) Interior Creative Designer of our Advanced Design team, his/her role must start with a strong passion for automotive exterior and/or interior design. The candidate will be tasked with developing fresh, innovative, and forward-thinking design concepts in 2D, and will be expected to develop these creative proposals into beautiful and well-resolved 3D properties (digital and/or clay models). His/her design inputs will be rooted in and rationalized by a deep understanding of market trends and cultural insights in China.

 

What You’ll Do

 

This role is a unique because he/she must have a strong creative design background, preferably with solid international experience at European OEM studios or design houses. The candidate must have superb 2D sketching and rendering skills, and be able to efficiently create emotional, inspiring and convincing design sketches. He/she must also possess extensive experience in 2D-to-3D development, while utilizing their creative problem-solving abilities to realize their design proposals, addressing engineering challenges during the vehicle development process and discoveries that arise through trend research and analyst. He/she must also demonstrate a consistent desire for fresh inspirations, and up-to-date with the latest design trends. This is an essential component to fulfilling the vision of each of our brands set by our design leadership. Finally, he/she must act as role models and mentors for younger designers and help guide their development as professional designers.

  • Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)
  • Education (minimum): BA or MA degree in Transportation, Automotive, or Industrial design, or equivalent experience
  • 4+ years of professional work experience in automotive design, preferably with international experience at prominent European OEM studios or design houses, with interest to work in the US in the future 
  • Comprehensive Exterior and/or Interior design ability that begins with creating innovative and relevant design concepts, fresh new design themes, cohesive and attractive design proposals, and continues all the way to the completion of a 3D vision (i.e. 3D digital and full-size clay models)
  • Superb professional sketching and rendering skills, 2D visual communication is very important
  • Capable of conceptual thinking and cross functional collaborative work
  • Desire, ability and dedication of total involvement in a holistic design process
  • Good understanding of user needs in different scenarios; able to improve the user experience via design
  • Smooth and constructive communications with clay modelers and CAS modelers, ability to translate a 2D concept into a 3D object both digitally and in clay

  • Experience collaborating with engineering and the ability to communicate via drawings (i.e. sections)
  • High degree of craftsmanship and professionalism in all aspects of the design process
  • Strong presentation skill for both internal and external meetings
  • Fluent and sufficient English communication skills, including technical terms, necessary to work internationally; fluent/semi-fluent Chinese speaker preferred
